UK Economic Growth Flatlines Over Q4 2019
Tuesday 11th February 2020 – 09:40am (GMT)
Figures released by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) have indicated the UK economy saw zero growth over the final quarter of 2019. The figure came amidst the backdrop of extreme political uncertainty and was in line with market expectations. There were early indications that the General Election has helped move things forward for the UK economy as a monthly GDP figure of 0.3% growth was registered over December.
The latest figures will also help ease pressure on the Bank of England who were eyeing a cut to interest rates ahead of last months policy meeting. The outgoing governor, Mark Carney, is speaking later today at the House of Lords with less market impact expected as his tenure comes to a close.
